Red Hat used to be one of the best known Linux distributions, and many other Linux distros are still based on Red Hat and its package manager, rpm. In 2003, Red Hat, Inc. dropped the Red Hat Linux and decided to concentrate on the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux. If you're a regular home user, you'll want to have a look at the Fedora Project instead.
